You should totally book a tour here! I almost never write reviews, but I just had to say what an AMAZING experience at Tokyo Great Tours. Yukiko was the friendliest and most knowledgeable tour guide I’ve ever had. Such a great time and a highlight of my time in Tokyo for sure!

As first time travelers we did the cycling Route A (from 9am to 3pm) which was perfect to see the Tokyo Bay and other interesting sites. Yuki was exceptionally kind and taught us so much about Tokyo and the history of Japan as well. The price also included a nice bento box lunch in a park:). Thank you Yuki!
I strongly recommend this ride. Yuki-san is a superb guide. She led us through Tokyo streets, gardens, riverside pathways and other really interesting places, at a pace that worked for us. She even stopped a number of times to show us fascinating places like a beautiful Shinto shrine, a gorgeous lake/garden with a miniature “Mount Fuji” in it, and an amazing museum that housed houses and shops as they were hundreds of years ago. Plus, of course, a little roadside shop where we picked up some trinkets. The bikes were in top shape, and we had no difficulty on the tour. I will definitely take this tour again if I get the chance.… – show

I was lucky to do cycle tour H, architecture, with Hana and Naoka, who are very knowledgable and friendly. The tour is a good mixture of sport, information and social activity, as we also stopped on the way for lunch and ice-cream. The guides were really good at leading us in the streets of Tokyo. I can highly recommend, you get a lot of the city in just one day!

My husband and I took a canal tour and had a good time overall. We had access to kayaks, paddles, and PFD, but we were disturbed that we didn’t receive any safety training or information on how to use a kayak. I have kayaked a bit before, but my husband had never tried. I assumed that the tour company would provide basic training about paddling (starting, stopping, turning) and waterway etiquette, but we didn’t receive any such information other than a cursory request to “stay to the right on the water.” If we’d known, we would have watched some kayak videos ahead of time. On one hand, it is nice that everyone could get in the water without laboring over safety lectures. Kayaks are intuitive in that way. On the other hand, we found the lack of training problematic in the Tokyo canals, which are utilized by numerous motorized boats that could cause harm to kayakers. In the smaller canals, you can expect to find jet skis and private fishing boats, and the larger canals include dinner cruise boats and the waterbus, all headed for Tokyo Bay. It is important to follow the “rules of the road” when entering the canals, yet we had no knowledge of how to control our kayaks or basic waterway etiquette. My husband and I were put into a tandem kayak even though we expressed repeatedly that we did not want to use a tandem kayak, but the tour operators claimed that we had no choice. We went along with it because my husband really wanted to try kayaking. I was surprised that I was placed in the front of the tandem even though I weigh more and have tandem kayaking experience. Generally, heavier/experienced people go in the back since that person controls the boat. When I questioned the tour operators about the seating, they dismissed my questions without an explanation. I can only assume that this was a kind of sexism, that the man has to go in the back? Maybe similar to the sexism that lead them to put a man and woman in a tandem on the assumption that we were a couple just because we made the reservation together. Once we were on the canals, one of the tour operators kept trying to get close to talk to us and kept bashing their boat against ours and then apologizing by saying something along the lines of “Oh, I just can’t steer these boats very well.” Please practice steering the boat if you are supporting a guided boat tour. At one point, one of the other tour participants decided to shoot across the group perpendicular to the direction of motion. We were following the river, but he suddenly came from the side and cut in front of us. He had his head turned and hadn’t looked before darting forward. My husband had no idea how to stop the boat — not that we could have stopped a heavy tandem in the short time we had to react – and we ended up running into the back of the other kayak and submerging it, dumping the rider into the water. The tour operators told us to apologize, which we did to keep the peace, but then repeatedly dismissed my husband’s concerns about not knowing how to control our kayak and requests for instruction, essentially telling us to apologize and just figure out the boat ourselves. There is no reason that the other participant should have been travelling perpendicular to the direction of motion, nor should they have been shooting between other kayaks sideways without looking for oncoming “traffic.” This is the exact behavior that should have been addressed in a waterway etiquette meeting. On the other hand, my husband and I didn’t notice the other boat coming towards us, so we had our own responsibility when it came to lack of situational awareness in that moment. Overall, this tour was fun and the canals were interesting. We are glad that we participated, though we won’t be returning given the overall lack of consideration for boat safety/etiquette and lax attention when participants expressed concerns about boat safety/control.… – show
One of the best experiences I had in Tokyo! Amazing staffs with a true “omotenashi”. They made me fall in love with Japan again with their amazing hospitality. We had a kayaking tour on a perfect day with cherry blossom at Sumidaga river. I will never forget the beautiful day and the great time I had with my friends.

We had the best time ever! The tour guide was great, spoke English well and Japanese. Very nice people run this tour. I highly recommend it! We will go back for more tours. We took the evening kayaking tour…cool breeze and buildings looked very nice all lit up. It was only an hour long and very relaxing pace.

First post COVID-19 activity! We did the 3 hr Route A with the team today and they took great care of us! Kayaking is awesome in terms of social distancing and they were super professional, with faceshields and hand sanitizers:) 100% recommended and hope they will weather these difficult times. Please support this small business!

Excellent bunch of people. We took a running tour with them on our first full day in Tokyo, and had a fantastic time.
There were just two of us on the tour, and we were lucky enough to be accompanied by two guides! Both were fantastic, knowledgeable and fun.
A really good mix of running, both on quiet stretches and busy city streets, with plenty of stops to look at sites along the way.
Route was pretty flexible, and they adapted it to our running pace and ability without us even noticing. Plus we got a free beer from them when we got back to base! And they were kind enough to forward us recommendations for some additional things to do during our stay.

This was the perfect way to start my first trip to Tokyo. I took tour H: Architecture with Mana. She was a fantastic guide as we rode through the city and explained the history and architectural styles of various buildings. We also stopped for lunch which was delicious. I cannot recommend this tour enough.

Fantastic way to explore Tokyo with friendly and knowledgeable guides. I did Cycle tour B with Naoko which was fantastic. Very easy cycling on footpaths and roads. The roads weren't busy on the Sunday I did the tour. Plenty of stops to visit landmarks and attractions. The price also included lunch at a traditional Japanese restaurant. Would definitely recommend Tokyo Great Cycle Tours as a way to see the city.

I have done a number of their tours and when in Japan recently for the Rugby did the new route E “Time travel to Good Old Tokyo”. Kaz-San & Yukiko-San make excellent guides with great local and historical knowledge, excellent English (& sense of humour!). The tour itself was a great selection of less well known Tokyo historical sites, and the riding enjoyable on their well maintained bikes. I have no hesitation in recommending Tokyo Great Cycle Tours & this particular tour. They are definitely the best.… – show
