I contacted 7 companies that help foreigners, 3 responded, 2 were skeptical about if what I was looking for existed. This company has been optimistic the while way through and helped me get an apartment in Shinjuku! I checked on reddit at first to see if it was too good to be true, but people were saying the AtHearth also really helped them. I am SUPER thankful that you guys exist!

Moving in Japan as a foreigner can be very difficult, but AtHearth helped to make the process as smooth as possible. Asami in particular went out of her way to make sure that everything was taken care of, both with our previous apartment and with our current apartment. She was very responsive and supportive with ad hoc issues that came up along the way. I would highly recommend AtHearth to anyone who is not fully familiar with the moving process in Japan.

If you are a foreigner looking to rent a place in Japan, save yourself some trouble and contact these guys. My agent Keisuke responded to my every inquiry quickly throughout the whole process so we managed to find a place despite my tight schedule. He explained everything in English, including all the contract, checked for foreigner-friendly properties, gave me some insider tips about the market, and remained responsive and helpful until the end. A true lifesaver for foreigners in Japan.

We always wanted to have a dog and thanks to athearth, we were able to find a brand new apartment in a beautiful town, and best of all, the apartment is very dog-friendly from the building facilities to the apartment interiors.

Extremely kind and responsive team. Very quick to respond to feedback with regards to what your needs are. Whilst I didn't end up finding an apartment for me, the process was extremely smooth and Katsu, my agent, was more than willing to help with any questions I asked.

English-speaking and Japanese-speaking staff and a streamlined contract process make this agency extremely convenient for foreigners that are having issues with traditional real estate agencies.

I worked with Katsu and Tomo on finding a suitable short term apartment for my family in Yokohama -- a difficult task in the best of circumstances. The staff were fantastic, responsive, and genuinely cared. They got us over the finish line and now we're in a lovely place a short walk from my son's school! Would recommend to anyone.

Edit: since I can't rate them twice, I'll have to add it on. They just helped me with a stressful mail situation months after. Most companies wouldn't offer to do this, but they are an absolute lifesaver!!

This company was a lifesaver during the a crucial time in my life. We were moving across japan with a dog to Tokyo in a pandemic. Moving is already scary and hard. I knew I could, but I *really* didn't want to do it alone.

I can't remember how I found AtHearth, but the process was awesome. W e worked mostly with Josh, who was a great point of communication between us and the many parties involved. I would send them tons of listings and they would vet them all, eventually helping us secure the best place we've ever lived. If we ever had any issues or needed an update, all I had to do was send a quick email.

AtHearth is a small company with many clients, so to get the most of my experience, I found most the listings on my own (which is the fun part anyway) but they took care of all the other boring or difficult parts.

Even afterward, when I accidentally missed a bill I thought was junk, they helped me by calling the company and because of them I was able to find the original bill and get it paid. I highly recommend them if you're looking for a new place. … – show

AtHearth was amazingly quick and efficient, we had used another service before but AtHearth found apartments we really liked, and after visiting one (literally two days after getting the list!) we decided on it right away and moved in a month later. Everyone at AtHearth took great care of us and helped us take care of all the steps along the way. Will absolutely be using their services again next time I move!

This company is really important and I wish them all the success in the world. Years and years of being denied by landlords, treated like an inferior, being offered the worst possible places at outrageous cost---trying to find an apartment in Japan really brings out the worst of racism here, an underlying attitude that's normally hidden from public view. You can be respectful, have a good job, have perhaps the best qualifications possible (I'm a graduate of UTokyo, for example), and still be den ied for nothing but race. At Hearth is actively pushing back against that, and I can't thank them enough for it. Being denied over and over again can be a really humiliating experience. Not only did At Hearth streamline the process by filtering out options that were rigid in their stance on foreigners, they went above and beyond to expand the horizons of what's possible for a foreigner to attain here. Eventually, this society will change, and it's people and businesses like At Hearth that are facilitating that movement in the right direction.

My personal experience with them was great. My wife and I found a place we absolutely love. And to put it in context, we're both architects and really particular about what we want in a home. I wouldn't be surprised if we were some of the pickiest customers At Hearth has had to deal with, and they still delivered. As others mention, they also go well out of their way to help with the whole moving process, which can be daunting to say the least. Thank you Nozomi and the rest of At Hearth for your service. Apartment hunting with Nozomi and AtHearth was the best experience I've had. They are incredibly supportive and quick to respond, and much of the process can be done from home, which is super convenient without the hours of sitting in a cramped office. They even make you your own personal page of apartment listings and help you organize your options. (Really helpful for someone like me who wants to see a lot of places, but also gets stressed out.) I love how they also help you out throughout you r lease at your new place. Nozomi in particular is just a great person too!

My husband and I recently moved from the US to Tokyo, and we could not have done it without Nozomi, Miwa, and Mizuki at AtHearth. The team was incredibly responsive and informative. Due to COVID, we wanted a home to settle into immediately after arriving in Japan--the AtHearth team held a video tour to help us make our decision from the US.
